Herbal Pimple Tonic

Pimples and acne can be really distressing, often impacting one's confidence and well-being. As a clinical herbalist, I focus on tackling breakouts by addressing them from the inside out. My herbal tinctures each address various root causes of breakouts and acne, such as hormones (Soothe), digestive health (Bitters), and nervous system health (Sleepy). However, it is also great to have a topical ally, like my herbal pimple tonic. Continue reading for the ingredients, directions, herb benefits, and application recommendations.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 ounce organic dried chamomile flowers
  • 1/2 ounce organic dried echinacea root
  • 1/2 ounce organic dried myrhh
  • 1 pint rubbing alcohol

Directions:

  1. First, grind up the herbs in a coffee/bean grinder, like this one.
  2. Transfer the ground herbs into a 16 oz glass mason jar.
  3. Next, pour the rubbing alcohol over the herbs and seal the jar shut with a tight-fitting lid.
  4. Place the jar in a dark place within the kitchen and let sit for 2 weeks. Give it a shake daily to prevent the herbs from packing together.
  5. Once ready, strain the herbs through an organic cotton cheese cloth and put into a clean mason jar or another glass storage bottle of choice. To make straining easier, refrain from shaking the mixture the day before straining so that the herbs pack down.
  6. This herbal remedy does not need to be refrigerated and should last forever due to the alcohol.

Usage:

  • ONLY use this topically. DO NOT ingest.
  • Wet a cotton ball with the herbal mixture and apply directly on the blemish as often as needed throughout the day.

Benefits:

  • Chamomile - anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, anti-bacterial.
  • Echinacea - anti-inflammatory, anti-acne, anti-swelling, wound healing, hydrating.
  • Myrrh - anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, wound-healing.
