A Nourishing Cacao Latte for Your Luteal Phase: Calm Energy + Hormone Support


The days leading up to your period can feel a little more tender—emotionally and physically. During the luteal phase, many women experience increased sympathetic nervous system activity, which can heighten stress responses and amplify PMS symptoms. It’s during this time that I gently encourage slowing down, tuning in, and supporting the body with grounding, anti-inflammatory foods, herbs, and rituals.

While I don’t personally drink coffee, I know many women do—and this herbal cacao latte is one of my favorite caffeine-free alternatives, especially in the later part of the cycle. It’s calming, mood-boosting, and gently energizing without overstimulating the nervous system. Plus, it’s packed with hormone-loving ingredients to help ease PMS and support a smoother transition into your period.


This latte has become a cozy, intentional part of my luteal phase routine—and I think you’ll love it too.

Ingredients

(for one cozy, nourishing mug)

  • 1 cup organic unsweetened almond milk

  • A splash of spring water (to adjust consistency if needed)

  • 2-3 tsp raw cacao powder (Theobroma cacao) or chopped raw cacao

  • ¼ tsp Ceylon cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum)

  • 1 tsp local, organic honey (or to taste)

  • Optional: Add a pinch of sea salt or your favorite hormone-loving adaptogens (like ashwagandha or maca) for an extra boost of support.

Directions

Step 1

In a small saucepan, combine the almond milk, splash of spring water, raw cacao (Theobroma cacao), and Ceylon cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum).

Step 2

Gently bring the mixture to a light boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally.

Step 3

Once it reaches a soft boil, remove from heat.

Step 4

Add in your honey (or sweetener of choice) and whisk or froth until everything is smooth and creamy.

Step 5

Optional: Top with a dollop of almond milk foam for that extra cozy touch.

Step 6

Pour into your favorite mug, take a deep breath, and enjoy the calming, grounding goodness.
